York College Writing Intensive Faculty Seminar

Welcome

This voluntary seminar is designed to provide foundational instructional tools to faculty who are proposing or teaching Writing Intensive (WI) courses at York College, CUNY. New and continuing faculty members are encouraged to take this self-paced online course and learn about the requirements and expectations for teaching/designing WI courses at York. This seminar explains key terms and the general pedagogical approaches of WAC philosophy. Upon completion, faculty will have created materials that can be used for WI course syllabi, writing assignments, and in-class activities.

The seminar takes approximately 4 hours to complete. Faculty do not need to complete all units at the same time, and can come back to complete each unit at their convenience.

The three units are as follows:

Unit 1: Introduction: Criteria for WI Courses

Unit 2: Scaffolding: Low-, Mid-, and High-stakes Writing Assignments

Unit 3: The Feedback Loop: Drafting and Revision
